- Water you can’t stop: shut off the main water valve. It’s often near the front of the house, in the garage, or in a ground box by the water meter.
- Overflowing toilet: turn off the valve on the wall behind the toilet.
- Leaking water heater: turn off its cold water supply, and the gas or the breaker.
- Sewage backing up: stop using every sink, shower, toilet and the washer.
- Water near outlets or appliances: stay clear and switch off power at the panel only if you can do it safely.
- Take photos for your insurance.
